What a Weekend It Was for Edmonton Sports!
The Oilers made it five in a row for a franchise record, and Kevin Martin heads to the Olympics

IT was an exceptional weekend for sports in Edmonton, as the Oilers and local curler Kevin Martin reminded us why we're the "City of Champions."
On Friday (December 11th) the Oilers came back from a 3-0 game against the Blues in St. Louis, to score five consecutive goals, closing the third period with a 5-3 victory.
That was the team's fifth straight win on the road (same road trip), setting a new franchise record. "I think after winning five on the road, it's tough to play any better," Dustin Penner told reporters. "It's tough to play any better than that."
Penner scored once during Friday night's game, in addition to three assists. Shawn Horcoff and Sam Gagner eached shared a goal as well, while Gilbert Brule made two.
Unfunately, the Oilers weren't able to make it six in a row when they returned to Rexall Place Tuesday night, losing 3-2 to the visiting Los Angeles Kings.
Just two days later, on Sunday afternoon, Edmonton's own Kevin Martin--and his team--swept the Tim Horton's Roar of the Rings, so to speak.
Team Martin, which played at an impressive 92%, beat out runner-up Glenn Howard over at Rexall, where 16,000 curling fans witnessed Martin's victory in securing a spot to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics in February.
Hometown hero Martin beat Ontario-based Howard 7-3 at the Roar of the Rings' men's final, which also included Edmonton's Randy Ferbey and Kevin Koe, and their respective teams.
Martin, 43, is the current Brier champion skip as well, having won the curling championship four times (1991, 1997, 2008-09), and took silver at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also captured gold at last year's World Curling Championships in Grand Forks.

I have followed kevin Martin for years and think he is the best curler in the world and the best skip, he hand picked this young team and they are doing so good,very good curlers in their own right . They will be the team to bring home GOLD to CANADA. GO TEAM MARTIN GO
